Research

My research is situated at the intersection of empirical conflict studies, ethnopolitics, and comparative politics. Together with my team at the ECMI, I explore conflictual relationships in multi-ethnic societies from various thematic perspectives. We adhere to the paradigm of theory-based empirical research, applying both qualitative-comparative and quantitative methods. We are interested in the causes and consequences of violent and non-violent ethnic conflicts, the conflictual aspects of ethnic politics, as well as institutional options for conflict regulation and diversity management. Our current research agenda covers three topics: conflict dynamics in cultural identity conflicts, territorial self-governance and power-sharing, as well as conflictual inter-group relations in times of autocratization and conflict.
